Does the Future Hold an iPhone for Every Kid? Does the Future Hold an iPhone for Every Kid?(0)

Technological marvels increasingly address, fulfill and alleviate the various needs of both expectant and new parents. An exponentially expanding assortment of modern creations can aid those parents’ progeny as well — particularly the ones with smartphones (especially iPhones). Just a quick glance at the iTunes “Education” section reveals an abundance of kid-specific apps intended to not only distract and entertain little ones, but also to teach them fundamental language and math skills.

CNN recently investigated this rising tyke-friendly tech trend, and it discovered that in November of 2009 “almost half of the top 100-selling apps in the iTunes App Store were for pre-school or elementary-aged children.” Even though most pre-school kids don’t currently own a smartphone (a tendency that will certainly shift dramatically in coming years), a now ancient 2007 Sesame Workshop study indicated that 93-percent of 6- to 9-year olds had immediate access to one. Even PBS, the classic television haven of educational programming, has jumped on the iTunes bandwagon, as it offers a wide variety of apps based on popular shows like ‘WordWorld.’

These apps aren’t just for pre-school or elementary school kids, either. App developers are even targeting infants with peacefully distracting Lullaby offerings. Just a short time ago, seeing a baby with an iPhone seemed like an anomaly and an occurrence worthy of widespread attention. But, soon, seeing a kid without one may seem as archaic as a single-television household. [From: CNN]
