MuscleNerd has hacked his iPad 3G to provide native (but primitive) SMS.(0)
This was sent using a raw AT+CMGS command sent to the iPad baseband. That’s because so far, MobileSMS.app from the iPhone doesn’t run properly on the iPad. This iPad is using a T-Mobile SIM cut down into microSIM size. Apple Outsells Motorola, Becomes Largest US Phone Maker(0)
According to Forbes, Motorola posted their phone sales today at 8.5 million units, some 300,000 less phones than Apple sold in the same quarter, positioning Apple as the largest phone maker in the US. The startling fact in these numbers is that Apple only makes one phone, compared with Motorola’s 117 different phones. Motorola has been losing phone sales for a while, boasting 46 million phone sales just four years ago. Their recovery effort has been to sell fewer devices but at a higher margin, putting more weight behind smartphones. This strategy is working but not as fast as their executives would like. Regardless, Motorola posted earnings of $69 million, versus a loss of $231 million this time last year. See more here: |

Comex has announced that tomorrow he will be releasing his Spirit jailbreak for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. wahoofan5: @comex so when’s it coming out? At least give a month please This jailbreak is a userland exploit which will provide an untethered jailbreak for all current devices. MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team is warning users who are hoping to use a userland jailbreak for the iPad, iPhone, or iPod to hold off on updating to iTunes 9.1.1. Today’s 9.1.1 iTunes is safe for PwnageTool&redsn0w. But those hoping to use userland JBs (like Spirit) should hold off. In general, those using *any* userland JB should avoid iTunes updates, since iTunes can detect & remove it. It is widely expected that the “Spirit” userland jailbreak by comex will be the first jailbreak to be released for the iPad.
